Dogs frequently cause many problems for their owners through their love to dig. Every year thousands of dog owners are left wondering how on earth they can stop this all too common problem.

It’s in a dog’s natural instincts to dig which makes digging one of the toughest problems of all to remedy. Nordic dog’s are the most renowned diggers, if you are considering adopting a dog and love your garden, stare clear of breeds originating in Siberia, Scandinavia and Alaska.

Some of the main reasons dogs dig include; boredom, lack of physical exercise, anxiety through separation, and desire to escape the yard.

Given that we know the most common causes for digging, we can come up with some solutions that are likely to put an end to your dogs digging. If your dog is digging because he’s not getting a lot of exercise you might be able to stop the digging totally taking your dog for a walk daily for 20 minutes or so. If boredom is the problem, buying some toys for your dog might help solve the problem. A dog that is constantly trying to escape may need to be tied up or kept inside.

If your dog simple likes to dig for the sake of digging, consider some of the following tips to help the situation:

Restrict access to the yard. You’ll be able to guarantee no digging by doing this.

Fill your garden with tough and resilient plants. Thorny plants such as roses are a good deterrent.

Some digging deterrents come in the form of sprays and powders. Spreading these throughout your garden can work very well in some cases.

Get creative and booby trap your yard. Bury balloons that will pop when your dog hits them. In some cases this is enough to deter further digging.

Another thing that you can do is allocate an area of turf for your dog to dig in. That way he can still get the pleasure of digging but not bother you - it could be a win - win situation.

Another option is to set up a special digging-box for your dog. This method requires minimal yard space and is easy to set up. It will work best for small dogs.

You should always try to find a situation where your dog is happy and you are too. Totally banning digging will probably leave your dog a little unsatisfied. Look for other alternatives where you can both be happy.

The tips mentioned in this article can in some cases totally eradicate digging, or at least minimize it. If you want to put an end to digging for good you may need to use a professional dog training guide to assist you. Check out the best seller listed below.

What to look for when hunting for a good dog boarding kennel–When boarding your dog, whether for just a few hours or for a week or more, you want the peace of mind knowing that your beloved pet is getting the very best care possible. You want to be assured that your pup is comfortable, fed properly, exercised and watered sufficiently, and treated with kindness.

Start by checking out the person who will be caring for your dog while you’re away. Ask for references, and check out each one. Make sure you know ahead of time what kind of treatment your pup will receive, so you can feel confident that you’ve made the right choice.

You want to know for certain that your dog is safe while being kenneled. Since some dogs tend to have aggressive behaviors, make sure you leave your pup with an experienced dog handler–someone who knows how to handle aggressive dogs. They should be able to keep any dangerous situations from arising.

Make an on-sight visit of the kennel ahead of time, if possible. Look for a kennel that is constructed in materials that can be cleaned thoroughly and quickly. Steel, aluminum and concrete are easy to clean, and do not hold any odors or unwanted matter. The facility should be sanitized occasionally; this will offer your pet a healthy environment.

Since wood tends to hold odors, bacteria, and other potentially unhealthy residual matter, try to locate a facility that is built with less porous materials. The health of your pet is at stake here, and you don’t want him in a location that can be potentially unhealthy.

Sunlight is healthy! A healthy kennel will be exposed to an ample amount of sunlight each day. Make sure sunlight is allowed to surround and enter the building, making it much less vulnerable to unhealthy mold and mildew growth. Mold and mildew will flourish in a building that receives just a small amount of sunlight, or none at all, since the building will stay damp and cool. Ahh, beautiful sunshine!

Does the boarding kennel have an efficiently working septic system? This is imperative to keep bacteria and odor to a minimum, and to provide a cleaner, fresher, more pleasant environment for your pet. Some facilities have no system in place, and everything is simply washed into the surrounding grass or dirt. That’s not what you want! Look for a system that has no back up of water or solid material. Take the whiff test. Yes, it’s a dog kennel, and yes, there will be some dog odor, but if the kennel and kennel runs are frequently washed down, there will not be a build up of urine or fecal matter.

Kennel Runs–Your dog should not ever have to share a kennel run with another dog. Make sure he gets his own space, and make sure the dog has the ability to go inside or outside the kennel facility whenever he desires. There should be ample room inside for your dog to lie down without being crowded, and ample room outside to stretch his legs and get a little exercise.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions when looking for a good dog-boarding kennel. After all, your favorite canine family member.deserves the very best. Don’t you agree?

Bringing a new puppy into your home is a very happy occasion; but this can also be a stressful time, particularly if you have never had a dog before. There is a lot that you?ll need to learn about caring for a dog.

Bringing a new puppy into your home is a very happy occasion; but this can also be a stressful time, particularly if you have never had a dog before. There is a lot that you?ll need to learn about caring for a dog.

The first step is to make your puppy feel safe and loved in its new home. Speak gently to your dog ad whatever you do, don?t yell at them if they do something which is out of line. Yelling at your puppy can cause them to become afraid of you; this is something which can be difficult, if not impossible to remedy. It?s better to take your new puppy for training as soon as you can after bringing your new family member home.

But there are other reasons that you would want to have your dog trained and it in reality it is not just your dog that needs training! You as the dog owner will also need training so that you know what the right way is and what the wrong way to handle a dog is.

You?ll understand the need for training your puppy almost the minute you bring them home. Your new dog will be extremely energetic and will run all over the house, chewing on everything, possibly breaking things and peeing on the floor.

The commands and the way to tone your words will be an important part of the dog training classes. But quickly learning the tricks and by practicing as often as possible will avoid most of the damages to your home.

Every single day you will need to take your dog out for a walk. You will soon learn that you need to teach your dog to walk without pulling the leash and that it has to follow your directions.

Not knowing how to control your dog when you are out for a walk can lead to disaster. It?s only natural for your dog to want to chase squirrels and other small animals ? but they will run into the street after them, which can be catastrophic.

Being struck by cars is one of the leading causes of death among household pets, especially dogs. These accidents usually happen because the owner is unable to control the dog using commands ? this is one of the reasons why training is so important for your new dog; it could literally be a life saver.

by Paul S. Lake

If you are looking to jazz up your water garden, one of the best ways is to add some Black in there. One great type of fish that go well in almost any water garden is the carp, or as it is known in Japan, the Black Koi.

If you think that Koi may be a good fit for your pond, then a good thing to do first is a little bit of background research on the Koi; where it came from and how to keep it happy and healthy. The most important thing is to be sure that you can accommodate the Koi and that they will be a good match for your pond.

Delving a little into the background of the black Koi, you will find that Koi are also known throughout the world as carp, and are a large variety of fish originating between Central Europe and Asia. Even from the beginning, there were many different species of carp, and they were even used as a major food source in Asia. They were promptly domesticated by the Chinese and South East Asians. When the fist made its way over to Japan, it became known as the Koi. This fish can easily withstand different water types and conditions as well as different climates. It is very hardy and resilient, and as a result of this, carp easily propagated all throughout Japan and surrounding areas.

While there are many different color mutations that occur naturally in Koi, the Chinese actually began breeding them for specific color mutations. This eventually led to the creation of the goldfish through selective breeding of the Prussian carp. By 1279, orange, yellow, red-and-white, and white Koi had been successfully developed. The black Koi came along later, and has become one of the most priced colors of Koi.

The 1980’s saw the creation of several new varieties of Koi, including the dragon carp, longfin Koi and butterfly Koi, who are prized for their long, flowy fins. More color mutations and variations were soon introduced, including the Ghost Koi, which boasts an amazing array of metallic patterns. While there may be a wide array of different colors and patterns, there are a few things that remain constant throughout each Koi species. Most notably are the prominent barbells found on the mouth, and a common body shape. Throughout the years, Koi have proven themselves not only as hardy and resilient, but also as a source of endless color possibilities.

Those who are planning on adding black Koi to their pond ecosystem should keep a few things in mind. First off, these fish may adapt and adjust easily to most any situation, but they are best kept in temperatures that stay constantly between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. The fish do best in these temperatures, and in situations where water temperature begins to dip in the teens and finally below 10c, their immune system can actually shut down and fail.

Another thing to keep in mind that they best thing about having a Koi is their beautiful colors and markings, this also makes them an easy target for local predators. Everyone from herons, kingfishers, badgers, cats, foxes and raccoons will be after your Koi.

If you aren’t careful and haven’t prepared a proper home for your Black Koi, they don’t stand much of a chance at all. At the very least, there should be areas of deeper water where the fish can escape from herons, and overhangs surrounding the pond that are high enough to keep other rascals at bay. Also, it’s a good idea to include a good pump and water filtration system to keep your pond sparkling and your Black Koi healthy.

by Joe R. Hilliard

Before deciding whether or not you should get a puppy or young dog, you must realize there are several aspects of dog training behavior to be addressed in order to have a dog you can enjoy and love. Of course house breaking is a major issue, but there is also leash training, bark and bite control, stopping the whining, dealing with urination when the dog becomes excited, and even crate training.

When it comes to house training you need to be able to follow your dog’s cues, take your time, and understand that a dog is learning bladder control just as humans do when potty training. To start house breaking, leave a large area of newspaper in one area of the house. Take the puppy to the papers whenever you notice them sniffing, and if they have an accident, show them and then take them to the paper. Gradually reduce the amount of paper to make the area smaller, and start taking the puppy outside at regular intervals of time to get the puppy used to the idea of going to the door.

For leash training, you’ll want to quickly let the dog know that you are in control of the leash, or the puppy will try to take advantage of the situation. When he or she goes to a place you do not want them to go, make sure to gently pull on the leash and speak the command of your choice. It is important that your dog is leash trained with you in control for outdoor and socialization purposes.

The last thing you want to deal with is a dog that barks all time and chews or bites everything. Show the dog that this behavior is unacceptable by allowing him or her to spend time with other, older dogs. This will help because this is a task that nature would have assisted with.

To teach a dog to control his or her bark and bite one of the best things you can do is allow the dog to socialize with others. When in nature, the mother and litter mates will teach a great deal of this to the puppy. By socializing with other dogs, your dog will quickly learn that his or her playful behaviors are not looked kindly upon.

The sooner you can get the dog’s whining under control the better for everyone. The dog probably whines because he or she does not want to be away from you, so before you go away for long periods of time be sure to give puppy time to adjust and reward small periods of alone, quiet time before pushing the long ones.

Though some people are against crate training, it does not have to take the negative spin that most people put it under. The crate should be a place the dog enjoys; it should be a home away from home full of things he or she loves and can keep occupied with. It never be a place for punishment.

Having a puppy or any dog that needs behavior training can be very stressful and requires a great deal of commitment and attention. Remember to stay calm and enjoy the puppy rather than to let it bother you. You’ll have a lifelong companion that way.

Tropical fish include fish inhabit tropical region (found close to the equator) around the world, including both saltwater or marine fish and freshwater fish.

by Rotem Gavish

Tropical fish include fish inhabit tropical regions (found close to the equator) around the world, including both saltwater or marine fish and freshwater fish.

The expression tropical fish refer to only those requiring fresh water. Saltwater tropical fish referred as marine fish but to be accurate saltwater fish are indeed, tropical fish. Tropical fish are imported from there native waters as well as home bred. Keeping tropical fish is a terrific hobby.

How do you decide which tropical fish is best for? An important factor while purchasing tropical fish is the color. Another factor is that far too many people purchase poor health fish. It is very easy to see if the fish is sick, most of sick fish just don’t eat. Don’t be shy and ask the seller to feed the fish before you put your money on it. Sick fish with ich disease or fin rot disease for example are easy to noticed, “Waste” 5 minutes and check your future fish, its skin, behavior and its vitality.

There are few rules we need to remember while we keep tropical fish, first rule is to be tolerant. A high percentage of people do not take the time to read, learn and study up on the hobby before getting started. Second rule is not to overload the system, placing too many new fish into the tank can cause ammonia and nitrite to rise. The third rule is to understand the need of maintaining our tropical fish tank on a regular basis. By maintaining our tank properly (water changes, test water quality) we can avoid many problems.

There is also the attraction that once the tank is up and running the required effort needed to keep tropical fish is relatively low, in-fact there is hardly any restriction to ones normal life. Keeping freshwater tropical fish is the ideal starting point to this rewarding hobby and can be done so by almost any age group, even children (best start with the family), with limited supervision.

One advantage of keeping and/or raising tropical fish is the large international community that shares your interest. Keeping tropical fish is a pleasurable hobby for families around the world. Critical part while you acclimate your new tropical fish is to not feed them for at least 24 hours and preferably 48 hrs.

Fish aquariums are an excellent place to watch a habitat on a smaller scale. Tropical marine fish (saltwater fish) enjoy their temperature a little bit warmer at 80 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit (26C). Tropical fish are very colorful and beautiful and therefore very popular as aquarium fish. Tropical fish tanks have to be constantly monitored for presence of harmful bacteria, fungi, and algae. Tropical fish saltwater and freshwater as one, just like other fish, have to be fed at least 2 to 4 times a day.

Reef tanks are usually kept at a temperature between 75-80 F (25-27 C). Reef tanks can be enjoyable and exotic. For some pepole Reef tanks are a piece of nature.

The mainly filtration for reef tanks usually comes from the use of great amounts of live rock which come from various rubble zones around existing reefs. Researchers and scientists find that saltwater fish tank have therapeutic health benefits. The tanks are usually constructed from either glass or acrylic.

With advances in modern aquariums it’s recently became possible to have a piece of coral reef at home and enjoy it in the privacy of your living room without getting wet with saltwater aquarium(also known as marine fish tank). A reef aquariums or reef tank is an aquarium containing live corals and other creatures(such as sea stars) associated with coral reefs. Unlike the marine aquarium (saltwater tank), the main purpose of which is to house various types of fish, the true stars of the reef tank are the corals and other invertebrates.

As the aquariums we maintain contain more and more diverse animal life, the need for more complete additives becomes more of a necessity, and the make-up of these additives has to be more geared to the new type of aquariums, in order to satisfy the requirements of all the animal life we now keep.

Water movement is important in the reef aquarium or reef tanks with different types of coral requiring different flow rates. Building water momentum using a gyre is an efficient method to increase flow, thus benefiting coral respiration and photosynthesis. Some corals such as the Mushroom Coral and Coral Polyps require very little light to thrive ” conversely, LPS coral such as Brain coral, Bubble Coral, Elegance Coral, Cup Coral, Torch Coral, and Trumpet Coral require moderate amounts of light, and Small Polyp Stony Corals (SPS) such as Acropora Coral, Montipora, Porites, Stylopora and pocillopora require high intensity lighting.

Stony corals, which are defined by their calcerous calcium carbonate skeletons (CaCO3), are the focus of many advanced reef keepers. These corals require additional attention to water chemistry (you can check it by using test kits), especially maintenance of stable and optimal calcium, carbonate, specific gravity and pH levels.

A reef aquarium requires appropriately intense lighting, turbulent water movement, and more stable water chemistry than fish-only marine aquaria. Nano reefs (small tanks) are very commonly sold as complete kits which contain the tank, stand, power compact T5, T8, PL lamps or Metal Halide lighting, protein skimmer, UV sterilizer, 3 or more stage filtration, a heater and a water pump or power head. However, many Nano reef keepers decide to upgrade their aquariums with better quality equipment such as a more powerful protein skimmer or lighting. In small tanks such as Nano reef even a tiny mistake can lead to tank collapsing.

Nano reefs tanks require even more diligence with regard to water changes and attention to water chemistry because the small water capacity provides little room for error. Care must be exercised when stocking these tiny tanks because too many tenants can easily overload the tank’s ability to process wastes effectively.

Dont forget to keep your books, shoes and clothing out of harms way of a teething puppy. Crate the puppy when youre out of the house or confine him in a safe area with all his appropriate chew bones and toys.

However, do not let the puppy out because it is whining. You must allow at least 5 minutes of silence before letting the puppy out. Your pet must never associate whining with being let out of the crate.

These two weeks you see the fat little rolly polly wiggle worm turn into a little crawling dynamo, eyes are closed and mom is providing for all of his needs. He is only aware of jockeying with his siblings for food and the comfort of his mother.

The following items should be purchased and set up prior to the puppy’s or puppies’ arrival: Stainless steel or rigid plastic non-tip food and water bowls,Crate of the appropriate size,Soft, washable bedding for inside the crate,Variety of chew toys and play toys,Leash or lead and collar of the appropriate size, Food that is the same as the puppy or puppies are currently being fed (same brand, flavor, etc)

In addition, depending on your house or puppy room area, you may also need to get some baby gates to contain the puppy in a specific room or to prevent them from going up or down stairs.

Puppies are a lot like small children: they will want to investigate everything. Puppies learn by chewing and mouthing as much as they learn by looking and smelling. By spending a bit of time puppy-proofing your home you can be assured that your puppy will be safe.

The inmates selected to raise the puppies are distracted from missing the “outside” and get unconditional love… not what you’d typically find in a correctional facility. The puppies also benefit as they truly get undivided attention and affection. A real win-win situation.

There are approximately five puppy developmental stages that your puppy will experience and several that will affect you and your family. It is important to realize that the first few weeks of a puppy’s life are very important for a long term healthy and well adjusted dog who will be part of your family. The first 12 weeks of a puppy’s life are critical for his healthy development.

In some cases, your puppies might bite onto your hands. You just also need to say “NO” and try to put your thumb inside his mouth under their tongues and place other fingers under their chins. Hold this position for a while until your puppies feel uncomfortable.

In the next few seconds you will not only learn how to crate train puppies, but how to apply crate training to crate housebreaking. Believe it or not, you can accomplish this easily with patience and by following a few simple steps. The secret lies in sticking to an established routine.

Microworms are one of many types of live fish foods that are quickly becoming more and more appreciated by breeders of aquatic pets and fish. They are easily cultured in any house and both hobby breeders and large-scale fish farms are known to feed microworms to their fish. You will soon see that microworms will benefit your fish by speeding up the rate of their growth, improving their colors, and enhancing their overall health.

Microworms are a type of free living, non-parasitic nematode. The scientific name for this species is Panagrellus redivivus. At full size, they are approximately 2 to 3 mm long and extremely thin. Because of this, they are a great first food for many species of fish. They also are very active and constantly writhing, meaning they easily attract the attention of young fish. Microworms are a popular first food for breeders of guppies, bettas, danios, gouramies and many other freshwater fish.

Feeding microworms to your fish will enhance their rate of growth. It is widely known that live foods are much more preferred as early food for young fish. Organisms that move are much more likely to attract the attention of hungry fry, and thus feeding microworms to your baby fish will encourage them to eat as much as they can. Fish that have a constant supply of live foods can easily outgrow others that are only fed prepared foods.

Microworms are full of many of the required amino acids and fats that young fish require. Fish that are fed a wide variety of live foods will have a well-balanced diet and will be better able to synthesize the compounds that give them their colors. Thus, microworm cultures are a great addition to your arsenal of live foods if you have any species of fish that display bright colors!

Also, including microworms in the foods you use for your baby fish will enhance their health overall. A varied diet helps improve the fish’s immune system and they will be better able to fend themselves from bacteria and other parasites that could harm them. A balanced diet that includes microworms will help improve your fish’s health and also allow them to develop their natural hunting technique as they look for prey.

by Ras Reed

There are uncountable terms that you will have to grasp in the course of training your dog. This will help you, not only to understand your dog but it will also assist you get to some measure of success. One of such terms you must acquaint yourself with is cross contextualization. Remember, your dog is a social animal and is likely to be in many places where you expect it to respond to your commands easily and quickly.

What is cross contextualization? It simply refers to the process of retraining your dog using the same commands in another setting or context. Initially, you started training your dog at home in the backyard or in the park. This made your dog to respond to your commands in that particular area or spot. But when you become confident of the dog’s ability to respond fast to your commands, you thought that it would repeat the same anywhere you take it.

Parenthetically, you may be amazed when you take your dog to a public park and command it to sit but it could not respond. The drawback is that it has become familiar with the training at home and could not come to grasp with the new environment. In other words, your dog has not acclimatized to the new setting and therefore need you to do some retraining for it to respond to your directions.

Hence, as a dog owner you know that your dog can’t be curbed to a particular place. So, to avoid confusing your dog, it is highly vital for you to retrain it in any new area or location you take it to. It is wise to list the places you will be visiting along with the dog and build your training sessions around those places or locations.

Be advised that retraining your dog is not as difficult as when you were training it the first time. In cross contextualization, all you have to do is get the dog aware of the new place. In other words, let it get used to the new place in order to respond to your commands. In addition, the length of time of training in the new place is ceaselessly shorter than initial training. Now that you are aware of what cross contextualization means, it is no longer acceptable yelling at your dog when you take it to a new environment that is totally different from where you trained it to obey you. All you have to do is patiently train it in the setting you have brought it.
